More Handclaps!

Howdy!

My name is Lizzy. I live in LA and like to draw things.

Anonymous asked: I just want you to know every time I your URL I read it as Handycaps

I tried Googling “Handycaps” to find a clever picture to use as a response to this, but instead I got a bunch of wheelchairs and now I feel like a terrible person.

THANKS, ANON. THANKS.

Anonymous asked: where exactly do you work? and was it scary, going from art school to this job market?

Oh, boy! This is gonna be a long one.

I work at a place called Buffalo Studios! We make the Facebook game Bingo Blitz. I actually went to a state school (University of Central Florida), but yes! Finishing school and being thrust into the real world is pretty terrifying, haha.

I applied to tons of places, and only a few even bothered getting back to me. Getting no response or, worse, getting flat out rejected for jobs is a real blow to the ol’ self esteem. It’s really easy to fall into the “my art must be horrible, no one is going to hire me, why am I even trying” mindset. Don’t do that. Companies are usually looking for a specific style or kind of art when they post a job opening, so if you get rejected, don’t be too down on yourself. It doesn’t mean you are bad!

One thing I need to stress, though, is don’t be a jerk. What I mean by that is, connections are key. People you knew in school or at an old job can tell you about a job opening at their company or even recommend you to their boss. If you were known for being a slacker or a dick during school, that isn’t going to happen. Lots of positions at my company have been filled because someone remembers so-and-so from their last job, and hey, they were pretty cool.

Some pretty general/vague advice, but I hoped that helped some!

TL;DR: Being an adult is hard.

Anonymous asked: in your garchomp drawing did you use textures or a brush to make it look like that? its so good uguuuuuu

It’s a brush that I got from baysalt who got it from here! It’s the 65pt brush called “sdfg 2” and is pretty baller.

For the lines I used the “Round 3 pt” pencil from the Stumpy Pencil set. That is my go to sketch brush for EVERYTHING.

I don’t know… what this means?

(if you’ve sent me a message lately, sorry, I am the worst at answering things - but it will happen!)

Anonymous asked: Hi! :) Do you mind if I ask you for advice? You don't have to answer! :) But, um, on your faq it says you have a Bamboo fun, I was thinking about buying one, since I'm too poor to buy anything over $150. um...Would you say it's a good tablet, for a beginner? Or should I try saving up and getting something more pricy? Thank you. Jesse :)

My Bamboo Fun lasted me all through college - great tablet! It’s a bit dated now, though. You could probably buy something newer for cheaper. The Bamboo Connect is only $80 new, for instance. No buttons/mouse, but using a mouse on these always felt… really awkward anyway.

If you want something even cheaper, don’t be scared of refurbished tablets! Just a quick search and I found a Wacom for $55 with some pretty good reviews. Again, nothing fancy, but you don’t really need fancy when you’re first starting out. All the extra buttons and doodads are nice, but they aren’t necessary. Some people even prefer a smaller tablet over the massive, pricey ones!

I just bought a new Cintiq so I can’t… really talk, haha. If anyone has any other suggestions (or experience with the new Bamboo line) let me know!

Anonymous asked: how come cute nerd girls are so hard to come by? and when you do find them there married or getting there?

They are out there, Anon! If they are anything like me, they are just… probably busy on the internet. But I know there are plenty of cutie patootie nerdy chicks on Tumblr, so they exist! Hang in there, my friend.

Anonymous asked: You started with season 6? That is the WORST season of all the seasons imo, but if you're still with us then I suppose there's hope for you yet!

I have heard 6 is the worst, but those were the only episodes on the DVR (and also what my sister was watching)! I’ve seen bits and pieces of 1/2, but Sam was SO WHINY so I never really got into it. I’m gonna give it another shot, though!

Also, here is a beautiful piece of art just for you, Anon.

Anonymous asked: Have you ever tried your hand at any Breaking Bad drawings?

I am behind the times and haven’t actually seen any Breaking Bad, so nope! It is on my list of shows to watch when I’ve gots the time, along with Supernatural.

This is pretty much all I know about Breaking Bad:

Anonymous asked: You should draw your boyfriend! :D

I have a headache that is making me feel like barfing, so this is the best I can do right now. It is actually… pretty accurate.

And if this is actually my boyfriend asking this and trying to be cute, here is a special version for you:
