More Handclaps!

Howdy!

My name is Lizzy. I live in LA and like to draw things.

Anonymous asked: where exactly do you work? and was it scary, going from art school to this job market?

Oh, boy! This is gonna be a long one.

I work at a place called Buffalo Studios! We make the Facebook game Bingo Blitz. I actually went to a state school (University of Central Florida), but yes! Finishing school and being thrust into the real world is pretty terrifying, haha.

I applied to tons of places, and only a few even bothered getting back to me. Getting no response or, worse, getting flat out rejected for jobs is a real blow to the ol’ self esteem. It’s really easy to fall into the “my art must be horrible, no one is going to hire me, why am I even trying” mindset. Don’t do that. Companies are usually looking for a specific style or kind of art when they post a job opening, so if you get rejected, don’t be too down on yourself. It doesn’t mean you are bad!

One thing I need to stress, though, is don’t be a jerk. What I mean by that is, connections are key. People you knew in school or at an old job can tell you about a job opening at their company or even recommend you to their boss. If you were known for being a slacker or a dick during school, that isn’t going to happen. Lots of positions at my company have been filled because someone remembers so-and-so from their last job, and hey, they were pretty cool.

Some pretty general/vague advice, but I hoped that helped some!

TL;DR: Being an adult is hard.

Anonymous asked: in your garchomp drawing did you use textures or a brush to make it look like that? its so good uguuuuuu

It’s a brush that I got from baysalt who got it from here! It’s the 65pt brush called “sdfg 2” and is pretty baller.

For the lines I used the “Round 3 pt” pencil from the Stumpy Pencil set. That is my go to sketch brush for EVERYTHING.

I don’t know… what this means?

(if you’ve sent me a message lately, sorry, I am the worst at answering things - but it will happen!)

naguyin replied to your photo: Things I probably won’t finish: Femshep edition.

What program is this UI for? o_O

Paint Tool Sai! I’m still getting used to it, but I like it better for inking/blending colors than Photoshop so far. You can make your lines so smooth and clean!

presentpatterns asked: I just think that you should know that you and your drawings are a wonderful, brilliant, candlelight spell that helps me find the things worth mining in life's dark caves. (Yes, I just made a really cheesy Skyrim metaphor into an attempted compliment. I have no regrets.) (:

I just wanted to publish this because that metaphor is amazing, haha. Thank you! <3

aryaesque asked: i just found your blog and i think i love you. how do you even manage to be this... flawless and cheerful all the time? Even when you're grumpy you seem to channel that into nothing but adorableness. just scrolling through your posts has made my day so much better, you have no idea. Thanks for doing this, for sharing. you're awesome.

Aaah, messages these are why I keep making and sharing all of my dumb drawings. I know they’re not amazing works of art or anything, but as long as they make other people happy or laugh, that’s enough for me!

Wow, that was cheesy, hahaha. But I mean it! Anyhoo, thank you for the message! You made my day so much better. I snooped through your profile and saw you liked Supernatural, so here is a Dean doodle ALL FOR YOU:

Anonymous asked: Hi! :) Do you mind if I ask you for advice? You don't have to answer! :) But, um, on your faq it says you have a Bamboo fun, I was thinking about buying one, since I'm too poor to buy anything over $150. um...Would you say it's a good tablet, for a beginner? Or should I try saving up and getting something more pricy? Thank you. Jesse :)

My Bamboo Fun lasted me all through college - great tablet! It’s a bit dated now, though. You could probably buy something newer for cheaper. The Bamboo Connect is only $80 new, for instance. No buttons/mouse, but using a mouse on these always felt… really awkward anyway.

If you want something even cheaper, don’t be scared of refurbished tablets! Just a quick search and I found a Wacom for $55 with some pretty good reviews. Again, nothing fancy, but you don’t really need fancy when you’re first starting out. All the extra buttons and doodads are nice, but they aren’t necessary. Some people even prefer a smaller tablet over the massive, pricey ones!

I just bought a new Cintiq so I can’t… really talk, haha. If anyone has any other suggestions (or experience with the new Bamboo line) let me know!

Anonymous asked: PERSONA 5 is in development. Not even a question, but yeah, Persona announcement deets should help you overlook that. Going anon just so I can say, I AM THE NIGHT.

I am so excited, you don’t even KNOW, Anon who sounds like Batman. Also, if you share my love for Persona, we should be best friends. Look, I made you this terrifying Akihiko and everything.

aboutnaekole asked: I want to ask, where do you get your inspirations from? Because I use to draw, but I found it so difficult to stick to one style, and when I jumble them, they become scarily ugly :(
I think you are an amazing artist, I want to draw and paint like you. Please advise me <3
xx

D’aww. I am sure your attempts are not as bad as you think! Artists tend to be the greatest critics of their own work (I know I for sure am).

Whenever I find a new artist I like on tumblr (or elsewhere), I always ask myself the same questions - What do I like about their art? Do they have any tutorials (if they do, bookmark that shit, son)? Would applying some of their techniques to my art make it better? Just looking at someone else’s work can improve your art like woah.

Of course, having a Dashboard full of artists you like can be a double-edged sword.

OK, putting a link to some of my favorite tumblr artists in a new post since I rambled too much on this one. Onward!
